WINTER DRIVING TIPS

Dallas, TX generally has mild winters when compared to other areas in the United States. January is typically the coldest month on average and the lows usually stay above freezing. However, even with that said, freak weather does occur, and on occasion, we do experience freezing rain. In light of that reality, we’d like to remind everyone to drive safe this winter and consider the below trips if the weather is bad.

Check the maintenance list twice.

1. More air, please
Tire pressure changes with temperature. When the temperature is cold and your vehicle sits for long periods of time, the tire can deflate. Tires with low pressure can pop when driving on the road. To increase your chances of not experiencing this, check tire pressure and refill to manufacturer recommended settings.

2. Wipe away the dirt
Wipers help fight low visibility issues caused by rain, dirt and other substances. You could always stop and wipe the window off yourself if your wipers can’t handle it, but it’s best and easiest to just keep good wipers on your vehicle.

If winter weather comes, consider the following while driving.

1. Go slow. It will help you maintain control and improve your reaction time.
2. When crossing bridges or ramps, always be cautious. When these surfaces become slippery they are extra dangerous.
3. If you end up getting into a situation where your vehicle is sliding, ease off the gas and brake, and then turn into the slide. As you regain control, slowly straighten out your vehicle.
